Spring Onion 'White Lisbon' (Allium cepa) – Crisp Salad Onion Plants (12 Plants in 2 x 6-Cell Trays)
Spring onion 'White Lisbon' is a classic, reliable salad onion with crisp, mild-flavoured white stems and bright green tops. It is a long-standing favourite for salads, stir-fries and garnishes, and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
The botanical name is Allium cepa, and the plants make hollow, upright, tubular green leaves above a white stem base. They are quick to crop, ready to pull in as little as 8 weeks, and are easy to grow in borders, raised beds, troughs and patio pots.
You receive 12 young plants growing in 2 plastic 6-cell trays, one plant to a cell, ready to plant out or pot on. Choose a sunny spot with moist, well-drained, fertile soil and space the plants about 2.5-5cm apart. Water regularly in dry weather, and pull gently from the base once the stems reach pencil thickness.
Sow or plant a few more every few weeks for a steady supply through the season. Like other alliums, spring onions are toxic to dogs and cats.
