Pansy 'Red Blotch' is a classic winter and spring bedding plant, with rich red flowers, each marked with a bold dark central blotch. You get 18 plants, growing one to a cell in 2 plastic 9-cell trays, ready to plant out.

Garden pansies (Viola x wittrockiana) are some of the most reliable bedding plants for cool-season colour. They flower generously from autumn through to late spring, and the neat, compact, bushy habit works well in mixed or single-variety displays. The mid-green leaves are oval to heart-shaped with slightly wavy margins.

Plant them in full sun or partial shade, in moist, well-drained, fertile soil. They suit beds, borders, window boxes, patio pots and hanging baskets, so they will grow happily in a container as well as in the ground. Winter flowering types like this are tough outdoors and will carry on flowering when frosty weather lifts.

Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous flowering, and water consistently without letting the compost become waterlogged.
