Strawberry 'Florance' (Fragaria x ananassa) – Late Fruiting Hardy Fruit Plant (12 x 9cm Pots)
Strawberry 'Florance' is a high-yielding, late-season strawberry that extends the harvest well into late summer, with large, firm berries and a sweet flavour.
Florance is a hardy, low-growing, spreading plant that sends out runners. It suits kitchen gardens, raised beds, borders, containers and hanging baskets, and the bright green leaves are neat enough for a pot by the back door. Bees and other pollinating insects visit the flowers, which helps the fruit to set. Florance also has good resistance to verticillium wilt and crown rot.
You receive 12 plants, each in its own 9cm pot, well rooted and ready to plant. Choose a sunny spot with moist, well-drained, fertile soil, and space plants 30-40cm apart so air can circulate. Plants in pots and baskets appreciate a little protection round the roots in a hard winter.
Water regularly in dry spells and while the fruit is forming, and feed with a high-potassium liquid fertiliser once flowering begins. Mulch with straw to keep the fruit clean and hold moisture, and remove runners unless you want new plants. In containers, use a good quality peat-free compost.
