Primrose 'Salome Pink' brings soft, rosy colour to borders, window boxes and patio containers from late winter, on compact plants that cope well with cold, wet weather. The Salome series of Primula vulgaris is grown for its large, classic primrose blooms and neat habit.

You receive 12 plants, growing in 2 plastic 6-cell bedding trays with one plant to each cell. Each forms a tidy rosette of rich green, textured oval leaves, topped with soft pink flowers that bees visit. They flower from late winter through spring, with more flowers in autumn.

Plant in partial shade for the best results. Full sun suits them only where the soil stays moist, so keep them out of harsh midday sun in summer. Enrich the soil with well-rotted compost before planting, and water so it stays consistently moist but never waterlogged. In containers, make sure the drainage is good. Primroses are true perennials, so they come back year after year if left in the ground, and they are often grown as one-season spring colour.

Deadhead spent blooms to keep the flowers coming, and mulch around the base to hold moisture and protect the roots in cold spells. Primulas can cause stomach upset and skin irritation, so wash your hands after handling them.
