Cabbage 'Dutchman' (Brassica oleracea) – Hardy Vegetable Plants for Summer to Autumn Harvest (12 Plants in 2 x 6-Cell Trays)
Cabbage 'Dutchman' is a reliable, high-yielding variety that forms solid, dense heads of blue-green leaves, making it a good choice for first-time growers and experienced allotment gardeners alike. This pack gives you 12 young plants, growing in 2 plastic 6-cell trays with one plant to each cell.
Dutchman (Brassica oleracea) is an upright, compact brassica with broad blue-green outer leaves wrapped around a tight head. It suits raised beds, vegetable patches, kitchen gardens and larger containers, and is cut from summer through to autumn depending on when it is planted.
The plants arrive ready to transplant, so there is no seed sowing to do. Plant into fertile, firm, well-drained soil that holds some moisture, in full sun, spacing plants 45-50cm apart. Water regularly, especially in dry spells, and feed with a balanced fertiliser to encourage strong, dense heads.
Like all brassicas, cabbages need protecting from cabbage white butterflies and pigeons, so cover them with fine mesh netting. A collar around the stem helps against cabbage root fly, and avoid planting where other brassicas have grown recently, to reduce the risk of club root.
