Dianthus 'Diabunda Red' (Sweet William) – Scented Hardy Bedding Plant (12 Plants in 2 x 6-Cell Trays)
Sweet William 'Diabunda Red' (Dianthus barbatus) is a classic cottage garden favourite, producing dense, rounded clusters of rich red flowers with a warm, spicy-sweet fragrance.
The Diabunda series is well regarded for its strong, upright stems, prolific flowering and good weather tolerance. The long-lasting red blooms make superb cut flowers, and the nectar-rich flowers draw in bees and butterflies. Deadhead spent blooms to encourage more flowers. Sweet William is a hardy biennial, so it will sit through winter as a small plant and flower in its season. The sap can irritate skin, so wear gloves when handling.
You receive 12 plants, growing one to a cell in 2 plastic 6-cell trays. They are ready to plant into a sunny border, a patio container or a balcony display, and a few stems cut for a vase will not spoil the show.
Plant in full sun in well-drained, moderately fertile soil, and water regularly during dry spells without letting the soil become waterlogged. They are easy to grow and need very little attention.
